Breathe

*** It's a moonless night, and for some reason, that's when Will gets restless and moody. Though Jack supposes that it's easier to be sleepless one night a month than twenty-eight or so. "Which do you think is worse-hanging, or drowning?" Will fingers Jack's wrist tattoos as he asks, quieter than a mouse's feet, and the traces of starlight gild his profile, which in this moment is too like his father's for comfort. Jack doesn't dwell. It's not healthy for a man. "Same thing, isn't it? Lack of air?" The other man's look tells him that Will isn't that sheltered, or trusting, anymore. Will lies back down and fits himself to Jack's side, breathing unnaturally steady. "I saw men die, in England and on the way here. Air, fire, water-" Will struggles a little against the kiss, but gives in when Jack's hands begin to run through hair like they run out lines in the wind. "Live while you live," Jack says at last. *** |
