*** The crosswords in the magazines have usually already been done, because the airlines are too busy hemorrhaging to remember about details like that. That’s why they don’t make a killing. Details, Vincent knows, are the most important pieces. Usually the newspapers are decent, in that they have no holes and plenty of fine black print to numb his brain to the stale air and cramped space. He browses through them, seeing nothing but lies and cheating and murder. It looks pretty homey to him. So occasionally he wonders just why it isn’t more welcoming. *** |
