*** Jack wakes to a steady shuddering beside him, but before he can ask what's the matter, Will bolts upright with wide-eyed horror fading from his face. His fists curl themselves into the blankets as he hunches over, silently trembling. A gold head pops up by his far elbow, and Elizabeth murmurs the beginning of something. Then she catches a glimpse of Will's face and closes her mouth, teeth flashing as they score over her lip. When Jack catches her eye, she shakes her head and sits up herself. Ropes Will back to her with an arm and cradles his head to her chest, turning him so his back presents itself to Jack. Who wastes no time in draping himself over the other man, breathing against Will's throat till the pulse there slows and a single word of explanation drops out. "Da." It tells nothing and everything, but right now, Jack isn't over-concerned with petty details like that. Instead, he simply presses the three of them more tightly together, creating warmth in the darkness. *** |
