“You did too.” Lazy and smirking, Lancelot rolled away from Guin’s elbow and sprawled himself over Arthur’s lap. He poked his head past the other man’s newspaper and tugged at Arthur’s tie. “Any later and Uther would’ve had your guts for garters. Remember, Arthur? Arthur.”
“I can hear you.” Without looking, Arthur pulled his tie from Lancelot’s fingers and then started running his fingers through Lancelot’s hair, quieting the man’s grumblings before they really began. One-handed, he snapped the newspaper straight so Guinevere, lying along the back of the couch, could read as well. “Wasn’t the most pleasant summer I can recall. Guin, I’m not liking the looks of this.”
Though Lancelot was fast succumbing to the petting, he hadn’t quite lost all awareness yet. “What? Oh, the American stocks? Last I heard, they were doing marvelously.”
“Exactly. Buy low, sell high,” Guin muttered, surreptitiously reaching down to poke Lancelot’s stomach.
Before she could, her wrist was intercepted. “As you say, timing,” Arthur told her, smiling a little. “Better to avoid catastrophe than incite it.”
